Production Shift Manager

Ref: CPW3077 Salary: £Competitive Contract Type: PermanentLocation: Folkestone

We are currently recruiting for an additional Production Shift Manager on behalf of a global manufacturing client in the area which operates on a 24/7 basis and specialises in the manufacture and distribution of FMCG products.

You will be part of a busy and professional team including 4 other Production Shift Managers and 4 Department Managers.

We are looking for someone dynamic, someone with a solid and relevant work history, but importantly, we are searching for a CV that really showcases your experience and the responsibilities you have held in each role.

Key needs of the position:
You will require experience of working with fast moving, high speed manufacturing lines and this should be clearly evident with application.
You will need to have worked at a Shift/Production Manager level.
From a culture perspective, you need to be keen on developing/coaching some non-skilled, but in the main, highly skilled production operatives.
Lean or Six Sigma experience of continuous improvement would be a great advantage.

Scope of the role:
The Shift Managers role is to manage people who operate fast paced and technological manufacturing lines to the best cost, correct standard quality and targeted efficiency
You must adopt tactical/lateral thinking to your work area to continuously improve efficiencies, up skill the workforce and seek ways to improve processes and procedures to move the business forward.
Extensive liaison between all areas of the Supply Chain in order to optimise productivity, resolve issues and improve processes and procedures.

Additional Information:
The plant that you will be managing has been transformed over recent years to accommodate fast efficient and in most areas, fully automated lines.
The Operators are highly trained and not only run, change over and control all aspects of raw materials to finished goods, but they also are training to maintain lines on maintenance shut downs.
The ability to manage all of these areas with the skills to coach, mentor and communicate to your teams is essential.
The business is ever changing and looking to develop its employees along with the plant culture, so investment in people is a priority in the manufacturing team.
Leading by example in Health and Safety, GMP, company competencies and production standards is key for this role.
Communication across departments is an everyday activity and must be a key skill.
‘Six sigma’ and ‘Lean’ are processes used regularly and would be a requirement for the role but although experience in these would be an advantage, training can be given.
Robotics and automated processes require highly skilled operators and Engineers and the Shift Manager will have the basic knowledge of these modern practices and the ability to help teams and individuals fault find and problem solve.
The Shift Manager will be able to change at short notice being flexible and accommodating to the demands of sales and our planning team.
The control of labour and managing overhead costs is just as important as output for this role.
Managing and reporting daily at the morning meeting is also essential.
The role has succession possibilities both within the department and across others.

Hours of work
Rotating 4 days on, 4 days off and night shift, ie, 4 nights (6am – 6pm), 4 rest nights, 4 days 6am – 6pm), 4 rest days, 4 nights etc.
However, we are looking for someone who is flexible to move shifts around to meet the business needs/team meetings/training
