Packaging Development Technologist

Due to major restructuring within the Packaging Team a position has become available for an additional Packaging Development Technologist – on a permanent basis.

 

Working within R & D Packaging, the role reports into the Senior Packaging Technologist and Packaging Manager.

 

The Company:

We have been working closely with this global manufacturing client for 15 years now.

They specialise in the manufacturing of fast moving consumer goods and have an instantly recognisable portfolio of over the counter (OTC) fast moving consumer goods/personal care.

 

The focus of the role:

This role will focus on personal care products, health care portfolio and packaging development.

 

General skillset we are ideally looking for in a candidate:

A University degree or Diploma from an accredited body in Packaging or a relevant Engineering discipline or equivalent industry experience.

Knowledge of the development of various types of packaging and packaging components,

for example: cans, pumps, actuators, bottles, tubes, corrugated etc and technical testing of the considered elements .

The ability to manage multiple projects, working cross functionally/internationally and deliver against company business goals and objectives

Excellent communication and presentation skills

Proven delivery focus

 

Product Development:

Developing suitable consumer and transit packaging including display cartons, shelf ready packs, corrugated containers and pallet layouts

Managing modifications to existing product packaging

Interface with all relevant departments to effectively manage projects

Managing project documentation

Identify resource/prioritisation issues and report to line manager

Developing and executing package testing plans

Source technical drawings/die lines

Offering factory support for pack design related engineering issues

Development of consumer and transit packaging using external suppliers

Validate designs through to full scale manufacturing

Implement transport tests to assure outer packaging and pallet designs are sufficient to deliver high quality products to customers

Harmonise pack designs to improve manufacturing efficiency

Issue and maintain packaging specifications as well as reports on outcome of industrial line trials

Provide relevant information for the assembly of technical dossiers and customer specifications

 

Regulatory/Legal:

Assure that all regulatory and legal considerations are applied to all assigned projects

Keep up to date and be knowledgeable of regulatory and legislative activity as it pertains to packaging and recycling

 

Quality Improvement:

Assist with quality investigations regarding packaging design

Support quality improvement initiatives and assistance with solution of quality issues related to product manufacture and packaging

 

Business Acumen:

Incorporating cost targets into all new pack designs and be aware of gross margin impact

Understand business and line efficient impact of all new designs

 

External Communication:

Interface with packaging suppliers to communicate technical requirements and specifications for the company.

 

Hours of work:

You will be working 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday with an early finish on Fridays!
